MMU FCM Virtual Reality Student projects features in Petrosains 20th Anniversary Showcase

PETROSAINS, The Discovery Centre, is celebrating 20 years of creating wonder and nurturing interest towards science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in the nation. Petrosains was established by PETRONAS in 1999 as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative in the pillar of education to provide a rich and stimulating environment to enhance science literacy in the nation and ignite the passion for life-long knowledge attainment in people.

Virtual Reality Department, Faculty of Creative Multimedia was honoured to showcase students project at Petrosains KLCC on 28th march 2019. The two projects were selected by Petrosains are DinoXR and Hera Rover Exploration. Some other universities also invited for the showcases; Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus display Microsoft HoloLens and Monash University Malaysia demo Exoskeleton suits.

Petrosains Chief Executive Officer Fedora Zulkifli attributed the progress and achievements to the support of all those involved in the past two decades including visitors, the community, employees as well as the Government, relevant agencies, the corporates and industry players.

“We hope we have helped the nation to produce and mould scientifically literate citizens, critical thinkers and innovators who can bring our country forward and advance society in the future”, “Thank you to our partner Multimedia University who participated in the showcase, for the Augmented Reality and Hera Rover Exploration,” said Petrosains CEO Fedora Zulkifli.

Hera Rover Exploration is a Final Year Project developed by Hamdan Basri and Ahmad Isyraf Jamil. It is a sci-fi arcade game which requires the user to wear a head mounted device to navigate a rover using joysticks in Mars in order to collect resources left behind. The users have to go through 3 different stages for the users to experience, each level with its own set of challenges.

DinoXR is an interactive Augmented Reality experience, which sets on the Mesozoic Era; diversity of scaly, giant reptiles known as the dinosaurs. It is a Final Year Project developed by Danial Farhan and Afraeim Hasmazi. The application features an interactive edutainment experience, first on Petrosains, KLCC. Learn about the natural habitat of the dinosaurs, and experience everything on an immersive Augmented Reality experience.
