Hamdan Basri

Meet Hamdan Basri, a 2018 graduate with a Bachelor of Multimedia (hons) in Virtual Reality. Mr. Hamdan now works at Weareedt as a Lead VR Developer. His previous work experiences include internship at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and Lead Content Engineer at Flytone Productions. As a game developer, he creates products and applications for clients using game engines such as Unity and Unreal. He is also the founder of VLIXN Ventures, a firm based in Kuala Lumpur that provides multimedia solutions for Casual Games, Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality application or simulation.

Aydarina Abdul Razak

Meet Aydarina Abdul Razak, a Bachelor of Multimedia (hons) in Interface Design graduate, class of 2020. Ms. Ayda presently works as a Product Designer for HABIB Jewels Sdn. Bhd. Her past professional experience includes a De’Xandra internship. She has worked on various projects at HABIB as a product designer, including “The Butterfly,” a gold wafers collection commemorating Malaysia’s independence day in 2021, and “Disney X HABIB,” a limited-edition gold wafers collection created in collaboration with Disney. She’s now working on HABIB’s next big project, which will be released soon!

FCM Postgraduate Talk Series 02/2022

The talk series which successfully took off last month in the Faculty of Creative Multimedia continued with Series 02 titled Unwritten Rules of Academic Research Proposal by our honorable invited speaker Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Rusmadiah Anwar, an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Art & Design, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia.

He shared his knowledge and wisdom to a room of around enthusiastic 40 participants (physical and online mode). Staff, students and researchers came as early as 10 am to meet and greet him before his talk. It was an enticing two-hour knowledge-sharing session chaired by Programme Coordinator Ts. Dr. Vimala Perumal and graced by FCM Deputy Dean (Research, Industrial Collaboration & Engagement), Dr. Roopesh Sitharan. The topic of discussion was relatable to researchers, students, staff as well as supervisors. Not only was it evident from the lively question and answer session, but throughout the talk, participants were engaged and responded to each slide animatedly.

Looking forward to the next talk series 03, the ‘Unwritten Rules of Academic Research Proposal’ was cohesive, informative and aptly conducted to curb young researchers’ interest in pursuing their research journey.

FCM Virtual Reality Students Win Gold Medals at 5th Sintok International Games and Gamification (SIGG)

Virtual reality students from the Faculty of Creative Multimedia have taken Gold medals at the 5th Sintok International Games and Gamification (SIGG). The SIGG is open to individuals and teams with two or more members, locally or internationally, hosted by the Innovation and Commercialization Centre, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). First established in 2017, the awards recognize both local game development as well as focusing on educational games. The competition is categorized into two types which are games and gamification. Gamification is using game-based mechanics, aesthetics, and game thinking to engage people, motivate action, promote learning and solve problems.

Walk into Floweria is an interactive storytelling VR application by VR Design 4 students: Eunice Lim Eu Nee, Mah Shi Ting, Tan Yee Ling, Chan Yi Siang, and Chan Xu Yun. ‘Walk into Floweria’ offers a brand new approach to the world of children’s storybooks! Meet new friends while learning important moral values with the game in an all-new VR world.

The game goal for this application is to create a bedtime game story application to help improve and encourage healthy sleep patterns for children and lessen their insecurities as well as fulfill their imagination with a fantasy virtual world with friendly animals and fairy characters. Children can learn language through playing games and interacting with the lively characters inside, and also learn thinking and social skills by choosing multiple-choice questions that lead to different stories and answers. Moral Values through the application will be included with fable stories as background and interesting elements.

 

 

Makhluk Halus is a survival-adventure Asymmetrical (offline multiplayer) VR game. It is a Final Year Project developed by Mummad Ikram Hakim Bin Mohd Zahiruddin, Muhammad Aqil Bin Mohamad Kamisruddin, Danial Imran Bin Azimi, and Arif Hilmi Bin khairul Safian. The game is set in a world where a virus has taken over. Where a big part of humanity has failed in keeping the world pandemic-free. One user will play as Hisham (VR), a young adult who is forced to get vaccinated. He will need to go out and do his best to not get infected by following crucial virus preventions sop. Another user will play as a virus(PC) and will find a way to infect Hisham. There will be two different sets of experiences for the users to immerse themselves in and learn about the prevention and transmission of viruses.

Mr. Dendi Permadi invited as speaker at International Webinar Flagships i-Entertainment 2.0: Leveraging Research and Development through 4IR and Extended Reality
The programme coordinator for Virtual Reality programme, Mr. Dendi Permadi has been invited as one of the speakers at the International Webinar Flagships i-Entertainment 2.0: Leveraging Research and Development through 4IR and Extended Reality. His talk, “Virtual & Augmented Vision; Making the Impossible Possible” was streamed live on Selayang Community College Youtube channel on the 8th of October 2021. The event aims to highlight the best practices related to immersive technology and provide opportunities for Diploma in Games Art students, Polytechnic and Community College students as well as lecturers to enhance their knowledge and skills related to the field.

Advertising Design Industry Talk with Asst. Prof. Dr. Zuhaili
The Advertising Design department was honored to have their External Examiner Assistant Prof. Dr. Zuhaili Akmal, who is now with Sunway University, share his journey and experience working as an Art Director for McCann Erickson in New York during an Industry Talk for Advertising Design Final Year Students on the 7th of October 2021. His candid and honest sharing provided students with valuable insight into preparing themselves for agency life; from tips on brainstorming big ideas fast to learning how to deal with rejection and stress.

FCM Internal Seminar series with Mark Teh
The faculty has taken initiative to invite an established artist that operate across various disciplines such as performance, media, archive and documentary as this week’s speaker for the seminar series. Mark Teh is a performance maker, researcher, and curator based in Kuala Lumpur. His diverse, collaborative projects take on documentary, speculative and generative forms, and address the entanglements of history, memory and counter-mapping. His practice is situated primarily in performance, but also operates via exhibitions, education, social interventions, curating and writing. This week’s seminar titled “Documentary Performance: Researching and Collaborating as Artists, Self-Ethnographers & Social Actors” was attended by most of FCM’s academicians.

Kicking of a new trimester: 2115
The beginning of a new trimester is always an exciting time at FCM. The September intake has started their first week of study last week. We would like to welcome all of our new students to FCM and we wish you both a happy and successful time here. We understand that the first few days you are likely to feel daunting and it is quite normal to feel apprehensive about your new start. However, FCM has a very friendly and informal atmosphere which we hope will make students feel comfortable, confident and positive about making new friends, meeting their lecturers and starting their course.

Abdul Khaliq (Alitt)

Meet Abdul Khaliq Abu Hassan Shaari or better known as Alitt, a 2008 graduate of our Bachelor of Multimedia (hons) in Film and Animation programme. Mr. Alitt is currently employed by Unity Technologies in Copenhagen, Denmark, where he works as a Creative Director. He specialises in game creation, real-time 3D technologies, and art & creative direction.

Alitt started his journey in games development in 2006 and has worked at Codemasters, Ubisoft and EA, on award-winning games and large AAA productions including the Race Driver GRID, DiRT, Prince of Persia, Assassin’s Creed, and Need for Speed series. He now leads the creative direction in the Games-Productions team at Unity, with the mission to deliver best-in-class game samples and products that validate features, workflows, solutions, and services. Also to inspire and educate Unity users, close the gap, and level up their creative and technical capabilities to ship fun, beautiful and successful games.

#WATN – Hidayat Jamalolail

Hidayat Jamalolail

Meet Hidayat Jamalolail, aka HDJ, our alumni from the Bachelor of Multimedia (Hons) Media Innovation, class of 2011.
Mr. Hidayat began his career as a freelancer working on musical theatre projects such as Supermokh Sebuah Muzikal. In 2013, he made a career turn by working as a Creative Designer for an Opposition Member of Parliament, which led to where he is now, eight years later. He is currently the Chief Creative Officer at INVOKE, a data firm that brings together technical expertise in data science, software engineering, application development, digital marketing and creative arts to offer data-driven solutions to the mass market.

He does not limit himself to one particular expertise. As a design and creative all-rounder, he is very much into everything that involves designing such as such as books, zine, interior, ui/ux, branding. Besides that, he is also interested in DIY stuff; self-published zines, self-produced design products & merchandise. Occasionally, he writes too. In 2015, he published a book titled “Cerita Budak Design.”

Meet Lawrence Tan Bing Thong, our alumni from the Bachelor of Multimedia (Honours) Film and Animation, class of 2013. Known as a graphic designer, an artist, and a dancer, Mr. Lawrence considers himself a ‘forever student,’ eager to both build on his academic foundations in art and design. He also strives to stay in tune with the latest digital media trends through continuous exploration and discoveries. His career started when he first joined WAU Animation back in 2014. Then, his journey continued to iKoala, Skoolbo, Project Beats from 2017-2020, which has given him a long experience in the creative industry. Amid his career, Lawrence also jumped into freelancing where he paints murals, creates logos, brand identities, and even collaborating with local fashion labels. At FCM, we truly believe in propelling our students to their fullest potential in everything that they do.

He does freelancing in addition to his full-time job at WAU, and has been involved in storyboarding for numerous advertisements for firms such as Affin Bank, Inneonusa, and Tata Truck (unreleased).

He likes to doodles and watch movies, and he’s a big Star Wars enthusiast who collects toys and miniatures. Drawings, paintings, movies, games, theatre, music, and any other kind of media that conveys emotion or meaning pique his attention.
